If you know McClanahan's, then you know, they have everything. This downtown location is in a very convenient location and has pretty much everything you could possibly need at a convenience store. Really gigantic! We needed some beers to go on the way to the annual white out football game and were able to score a couple pounders for six dollars. Pretty reasonable if you ask me. There is a separate register for beer and wine sales so make sure you head there. We didn't shop or order any food here, but those are good options for those in need.

I previously reviewed Mclanahans when I first moved to town and decided it's time to re-review and give them that extra star. Mclanahans is still far from perfect so I'm really rounding up for 4.5 stars, but considering what it's surrounded by in State College, it's definitely closer to the 5! Grocery and deli: I think I've only purchased minor groceries here and don't rely on it solely for food due to the cost markup but it sure is convenient! They have a nice variety of household items and groceries and alcohol so it's nice to have that so close to home or work for folks. The deli I've only recently started going to but have greatly enjoyed their daily specials (meatball Mondays and their Sunday Turkey and Gouda sandwich). They use Boars Head meat, of which I'm a huge fan and struggle to find at other places up north. A's Pub: this little pub up at the front of the building is my favorite indoor place to drink in the entire town and if it's not crowded it really is one of my favorite places I've ever been for drinks! The setup is self serve taps- you prepay on a special card and then take that card up and pay for the pour, however much you decide to pour. This is great for folks who just want to taste test, or don't want a full glass at all. They have beer, a seltzer (usually), local wines, and more recently have added a local craft cocktail on tap as well. They've also expanded to have a walk up cocktail bar (not on tap, made to order) that I have yet to try but they certainly will have something for everyone. Not into alcohol? The grocery side has a plethora of bottled beverages (including new health craze drinks like kombucha and special probiotic sodas) to choose from, as well as snacks and sandwiches, all of which you can bring into the bar area and enjoy. During weekdays this area is pretty empty and a great place to eat a quick lunch. Evenings, especially Friday and Saturday, the place fills up for happy hour (an incredible deal, 1/2 off draft prices, meaning you can get a pint of beer for $1+). They often have live music on Fridays and I will say I'm not a fan- the space is too small and the loud music plus the clamoring of college students is too much for my ear drums so I prefer to go not on Fridays. Otherwise their happy hours are a blast and they have a good sized space for groups. I am going to miss Mclanahans very much when we move, so if you are in town give it a try and toast to Abi O!

A very cool spot to sit an have a drink. I had a very enjoyable cheesesteak from here as well. They have very nice happy hour specials. This is a wonderful spot to try craft beer and cider at a very affordable cost. Will continue to come here.

Best sandwiches in state college! Meatball Monday is the best deal around but all their subs are great. Freshly made and able to be customized!

Great little supermarket. College-town vibe. But the deli is awesome. Breakfast sandwiches are awesome and reasonably priced. But the subs are where it's at. Fresh baked bread/rolls, fresh sliced meats and cheeses. All the toppings you can imagine. Daily specials. Here's the thing: and something I love to do: walk in and ask the deli folks to make you something. Literally anything. "Make me something good: cold sub on white. Ready, set, go!" It's amazing what you will try - I've been doing this for the past couple of weeks and haven't gone wrong yet.

By far the best rolls in state college. Quality meat. Great service. We are picky about bread and If you are looking for a tougher NYstyle sub roll- this place is awesome . Great atmosphere too!

McLanahan's is sort of a hidden gem in State College that the hordes of frat bros are unfortunately finally discovering. Come now before all is lost!! For happy hour this place pushes 5 stars, the only drawback being the horribly loud live music. They have the cheapest beer in town during happy hour (which is at a normal time, not these ridiculous late night happy hours plaguing state college) and you can get extremely good craft beer for a buck or two. They have lots of taps, wine, slushis, and bottled beer, so there is something for everyone (except cocktails), PLUS the whole deli in the back. On the weekends you get the added bonus of free (FREE!) pizza and popcorn. Really this place cannot be beat for happy hour. Get there early (ish) to avoid crowds and the blaring acoustic guitar.

WHAT IS UP WITH THESE SUB-PAR REVIEWS!? McLanahan's is awesome. Not only is it a Penn State staple, it's pretty much the only grocery store within walking distance. Don't even get me started on their deli....FIVE BUCKS for a 12 inch sub packed with Boar's Head deliciousness!? Awesome home-made sides (try their potato salad) for cheap!? Mclanny's makes ma nips tingle in the best of ways. The owner of the store sometimes works behind the counter at one of the check out stations and he's always so nice and friendly. They have fresh fruits and veggies, frozen items, even rotisserie chickens! They've just got it all. Pro Tip: They have a PNC ATM inside which is very convenient to a lot of people who live on Allen.
